CLOSE THE TABS

" How can you be a leader and be disorganized?" - Gloria M.

The month of June came so fast and with such a bang that I had to remind myself just how important organization is. I am of the type who, when stressed, I clean and reorganize my surroundings because I start to feel suffocated in the space I am in. I do so physically, but what happens when this is done mentally? This month really showed me how thorough I have to be. The things that cripple us a lot is lack of organization. Being organized inward spills outwards as well. How can you be a leader and be disorganized?

I was having a conversation with my little brother not too long ago and we were addressing how much we feel stressed because we're not organized. With our time, our lives, our finances etc... I reminded him that being organized just helps put things into perspective sometimes. I jokingly said :" Are you the type of person who refuses to close their tabs because they fear they'll lose the page forever? " He laughed and said :"I actually am. If you go on my computer right now, all my tabs are opened." This reminded me of an episode from the friendzone podcast where they addressed organization and they mentioned that: " some people thrive in chaos and others need to have everything organized to see clearly. But organized chaos is still disorganization. the fear of letting things go." This taps into our attachment style and the way we handle life in general.

This month, working on my project that's launching soon taught me that as much as I think I'm organized, I really am not. Yes, I utterly clean and that alleviates some stress but my brain still panics when it's time to do the work because in some ways, I haven't organized my train of thoughts and ideas so I get lost often. So I found a way to stir in the right direction so that I don't miss anything and that I am on top of it all. I started by creating folders in OneNote. This has become my holy grail when it comes to organizing my project. I've been able to write down my thoughts the second they come to mind, to avoid forgetting.

How do you organize yourself mentally? Are you an organized chaos type of person or do you prefer everything to be in order ? I want to hear from you. Maybe hearing how others organize themselves can help me see another way and create a new habit.

Dear God,

Thank you for making life happen the way it is. It's true that we are all built different and I am so thankful for that. This month is the month we launch a project that took years in the making. For this, I simply ask that you oversee it all.
