#BALANCEFORBETTER

" A woman is the full circle ..." - Unknown

As we all know, women have come a long way and way too many sacrifices had to be made to get to where we are today. Since it's the woman's month, I want to put on notice the woman that made an impact in my life and the lives of many around me. Ladies and gentlemen, let's give it up for my mother.

Being the eldest daughter in a Congolese household, it is safe to say that I am the token child. I have to know everything and do as much as my mother does. You see, as a kid, I probably saw it as torture that she insisted I knew the basic things. Her and I, had a hard time seeing eye to eye. As a matter of fact, we were not friends. The true meaning of your mother is not your friend?! Yeaah.. That was us.
It always seemed as though I was growing up faster than everyone else my age, I felt like I was missing out on childhood fun because I had to learn how to make fufu (cook). But along the way, it turned out to be a great balance for better. I can honestly say that I have been taught well.

Over the course of time, I have seen my mother go from my greatest enemy/rival to the person I cannot live without or go a day without speaking to. I went from refusing to be like her, to becoming the spitting image of her. Her heart still amazes me today. Her vulnerability and gentleness is something I aspire to become.

All this to say is that I am thankful for my first source of knowledge. The person who chose not to get rid of me no matter how much pain I caused her and how many times she had to question her decision for bringing me on this earth. She still stays by my side and supports me and my growth everyday.

This is the woman's month!! Who is the woman you want to put on notice that has impacted your life? Wherever you post your testimony about your SHERO, part take in the conversation and hashtag this year's woman's month theme #Balanceforbetter

Dear God,
Thank you for creating a woman.
The circle of life is within her and all we can ask for is for you to shape us to become more vulnerable, accountable, loving and more importantly strong like a woman.
Thank you for the role models you placed in our lives that are women.
May they live longer.

Amen.
